More Wildlife

We just put a stack of bird feeders around, so here's some of the birds we get in and around the garden. Buzzards (above the house, not in the garden!), Green, Greater and Lesser Spotted woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Greenfinch, a Wren nests nearby and provides constant amusement, plus the usual Great and Blue Tits, Chaffinches and Robins. Very few Sparrows and so far no Magpies or Jays, which is good as they are a pain. 2 families of House Martins were nesting under our eaves but they have now flown South for the winter.

And best of all there are several Tawny Owls that call from nearby trees (well, within I guess 400 metres or so) most nights and we have seen one of them so far.

There will be more !

And an early morning update, 2 young foxes across the railway. I look forward to seeing some live badgers rather than just roadkill.

And, just for Brenda, we have a hedgehog that seems to be making a home under a stack of tree and bush clippings.

A late edition - several Giant Wood Wasps have got in the house late at night. They are 50-60mm in length with a very loud drone and are supposed to be harmless, but I'm taking no chances !

Deer

We decided not to use the original name for the house which was "Deerleap". The previous owner said she had named it so because of the deer that could be seen around the area, but up to now we hadn't see one. That changed today as you can see from the photograph.

Music

People sometimes ask me about my taste in music and I say that it is varied from Hard Rock through to Opera.

But I very much doubt if many of you out there around my age will recognise Antigone Rising or Bif Naked, let alone have heard their music? Let me know if you have and maybe we can start an Oldies fan club.

Or those Buffy fans should see Nerf Herder
