Replacement Fence

Well, I'm not sure I liked the large hedge that was there originally, but it did give privacy to this Mews house. This new one is not very grand.

Ah well, we can now see everything going on there from the flat. Perhaps we should set up a webcam?

Drove Roads

A feature of this part of the world is the Drove Roads that run parallel to the metalled roads and, as the name implies, were used to move cattle.

This is one a few hundred yards from our house - great walking.

New Fence?

Well, there used to be a Leylandii hedge around Jon and Brenda's garden but suddenly it all changed. Was this now going to be a fence erected on the poles that you can see in the picture?

No - these were the "trunks" of the Leylandii once all the branches had been removed.

It made me wonder whether Stonehenge was originally something much grander and what we see today is simply that the "stone removers" got bored before they had finished?

Walks

Last week we took the train up to Stogumber and walked back across the fields. It's just over 3 miles and has some wonderful scenery and wildlife.

Just out of Stogumber station I climbed a stile and was faced by this boar - damn great thing that stood there and made threatening noises. After a few minutes (with me keeping fairly still) it turned round, laid down and went to sleep. We then "tiptoed" across the field.

The Grapes, The Grapes

And here are the grapes still on the vine.
